To support her family, Rohayah has started a small stall behind the Sime Darby building in Jalan Raja Laut. Everyday she rises as early as 3am to start her preparations of meals for sale. Rohayah makes nasi lemak, chicken curry, fried fish, egg sambal and
few other dishes to be sold at her stall.
She also makes a variety of deserts and banana fritters for additional sale.
Rohayah comes across as a very tired person when she drops her grandchildren in the children’s activity centre (PAKK) but she portrays a lot of determination and will to work hard to produce income for the families daily needs. She works hard to ensure the health of her mother is taken care of and that both grandchildren do not go hungry. She is also a very compassionate lady. Apart from her daily work and chores, she teachers other young mothers skills of cooking in hope to encourage them to prepare meals to be sold at her stall. She has a big heart to share what she receives with others in order to help others out.
With such determination and hard work, it drew social workers attention to help her and her family in their needed areas. Social workers felt she was a deserving lady who would benefit from extra assistance. Social workers assisted with model payment for her to purchase her raw ingredients to be able to ease her burden
They also assisted to put both grandchildren in school and to purchased books and other necessary schooling items to reduce their challenges in school. Both grandchildren also attend counselling to heal their inner
difficulties thru expression of thoughts.
I am blessed and am very lucky to receive financial assistance from Yayasan Chow Kit. The model money that I received helped me get more raw material. That resulted me to increase my sales.
"I hope one day I will be able to open a bigger stall with more food to encourage others to sell their food too! My Grandchildren are also benefiting as they have a safe place to go to after school and get to attend interesting programs.”
